Mission Statement

Clean Up the Keys is a green, all-volunteer organization of dedicated stakeholders who recognize the Florida Keys – especially our mangrove coastline – as a precious and unique treasure. Using non-motorized vessels, members regularly volunteer to clean marine debris and to re-cycle such ecological threats to the maximum extent possible.

Welcome to the website of the Florida Keys newest green organization. Clean Up the Keys is a non-profit organization of enthusiastic and environmentally savvy professionals, retirees, families, and young people who regularly volunteer to remove discarded monofilament, abandoned coolers, food and drink containers, and huge amounts of other trash and marine debris from island shorelines along the 150 mile stretch of the Florida Keys. Our volunteers are the “heart and muscle” of Clean Up The Keys.

As a decidedly “green” organization, we accomplish our mission using non-motorized watercraft including kayaks, row-boats, and floating platforms. Instead of filling our limited landfills, we also recycle the massive amounts of marine debris that is recovered from shoreline mangrove beach heads.

We encourage you to make this website a “favorite” to keep informed of our regularly scheduled clean up events which are planned in several locations along the Florida Keys. Be sure to see our “Scheduled Events” section and know that you are welcome to join our team of volunteers as we “Clean Up the Keys”.

In the months to come, Clean Up the Keys plans to secure a small flotilla of “extra” kayaks so even volunteers without their own vessel can join in our “green” mission.

Finally, Clean Up the Keys appreciates your donations! As a 501 (c) 3 non-profit, your financial gift is fully deductible and 100% of your gift will be used for essential costs including guest kayaks, trash bags, gloves for volunteers, and minimum essential equipment such as beach carts and walkie-talkies.
